Professor Dr. M. Kamal Uddin, Senior Advisor, Centre for Policy Research, Bangladesh & Former Director (Head), Institute of Appropriate Technology (IAT), Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET), Dhaka, Bangladesh rendered a keynote lecture on the theme “Innovate for a Green Future” on 26th April, 2020 at 7:40 PM on the occasion of World Intellectual Property Day 2020. His deliberation was about how innovation and intellectual property rights can play a great role in opening a new pathway to a green future of Bangladesh.
He discussed about present IP situation and innovation system of Bangladesh and showed the road map to develop the National Innovation System (NIS) that encourages & supports innovation and creativity in the country. He emphasized importance of establishment of national IP council, IP ancillary institutions, Technology Innovation and Support Centers (TISCs), strengthening IPR enforcement and development of IP culture in Bangladesh. He stressed the need of strengthening and encouraging R&D activities to develop indigenous technology & products and their commercialization. His deliberation also accentuated the importance of protection and commercialization of various innovations and inventions of different sectors and their products in the country. He urged all concerned to act now for exploring the role that innovation and intellectual property rights can play in heralding a new future path of development with targeting to achieve a green future for Bangladesh.
